How To Drink More Water

Are You Drinking Enough Water?

You know that water is important and you know that you should be drinking more of it, but sometimes it’s just hard to remember to pour enough glasses of water each day. Fortunately, there are some methods you can use to encourage yourself to drink more water and live a healthier lifestyle. Here are some of the top tips from the Organic Restaurants blog.

Try Out Sparkling Water and Seltzer

If you’re someone who finds themselves drinking a lot of soda, you might be able to get yourself to drink more water by trying some seltzer or sparkling water. A soda-drinking habit can be hard to break, but eventually, you may find that you can do without all that sugar or caffeine as long as you keep the bubbles! Seltzer can be way more refreshing and usually has zero calories or added ingredients, much like flat water.

Set a Routine

This may seem silly, but making sure that your first and last beverages of the day are water can help you consume more of it. Most people need between 90 and 125 ounces of water per day. Two 16 ounce glasses, one at the beginning of the day and one at the end, can get you a good way towards that goal. Also, if you start the day with water, you could end up drinking more than usual throughout the rest of the day.

Add More Ice to Smoothies

This may seem silly, but adding more ice to your smoothies can also help you consume more water. If you’re a fan of grabbing a smoothie for an on-the-go breakfast, a bit of extra ice can help you stay better hydrated the rest of the day.

Alternate Water with Other Beverages

If you find yourself drinking a lot of beverages that aren’t water, try alternating these drinks with glasses of water. Having a caffeinated soda to get past a midday slump? Drink a glass of water after. Just finish up your morning coffee? Make your next drink a cup of water. If you’re out for dinner or drinks, alternate water with your alcoholic beverage of choice. This can help you stay more hydrated and, in some cases, save some money.

Set a Goal

If these other methods aren’t working, make things simple. Set a goal of drinking more water with a set number of ounces or glasses in mind. You can start smaller if that’s less intimidating and just try to consume more water than normal at first, and then you can work your way up to drinking more and more of it. You can set timers on your phone to remind you to drink a glass or remember to always carry around a refillable water bottle with you. Whatever can help you remember to drink more and reach your new goal.
