Dairy products, refined sugar, gluten and eggs are dirty words at this Lower East Side bakery, where founder Erin McKenna pumps out delicious, sugar- and wheat-free delicacies (often flavored with agave nectar and coconut oil in favor of traditional baking ingredients), such as red velvet cupcakes, banana chocolate chip loaves, chocolate chip cookies, Macintosh apple crumb cakes, pumpkin spice muffins and cinnamon buns. BabyCakes has become so popular, in fact, that it spawned an eponymous cookbook, now available in stores.
